Launch of IBP in India Agra, India (21-25, September 2003)
The Implementing Best Practices (IBP) Initiative Meeting was held in India from 21st to 25th September 2003.
The theme of the meeting was "Managing Change and Creating Enabling Environments to Improve the Quality, Demand and Utilization of Reproductive Health Services."
The four states chosen to launch this initiative were: Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh. Partners of the IBP Initiative worked closely with local partner agencies in India. Over 280 senior health officials from the Ministry of Health, international and non-governmental agencies, research institutes, professional bodies and local grass roots organizations were involved in the launch of this Initiative. The meeting was an excellent example of collaboration between partner agencies. Feedback to date demonstrates that the IBP Initiative has created a great deal of enthusiasm and momentum.
A number of interactive techniques were used to introduce evidence-based practices and enabling practices to improve reproductive health care services. Each team formulated a realistic action plan that defined activities, the role and contribution of each agency and time-bound markers of achievement to monitor and acknowledge successful implementation. Partner Facilitators and State Team Leaders were identified to provide follow-up and support each team implement the programme of activities to which they agreed. |
